A Message from Our Music Director…
Greetings, and welcome to our 2013-2014 season—Celebrating 10 Years! Our patrons, our friends and our community have all helped make this special season possible. We are honored and excited to share this momentous season with all of you!
Join us for an afternoon of ambience and old favorites as we embark on the LSO's 10th anniversary season. We are delighted to perform Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks and Vivaldi's Piccolo Concerto featuring soloist Patricia Surman, along with a new work written to commemorate our anniversary by local composer Elizabeth Davis. Great music, great setting—you won't want to miss it!
By popular demand, join us for the LSO's very first Halloween concert—an evening filled with spooky sounds and haunted harmonies! Inspired by the mysterious music of Berlioz, Gounod and Mussorgsky, we will perform some of the most famous Halloween melodies of all time along with Liszt's Totentanz featuring local pianist William Bloomquist. Get your costumes ready—we'll be highlighting a costume contest appropriate for all ages!
January is a time to celebrate a New Year, new life, new spirit, and certainly the continuation of our 10th anniversary season! The LSO is excited to collaborate with Jo Ann Kulesza and the Arundel Vocal Arts Society (AVAS) as well as perform the world premiere of Hollis Thoms' Symphony No. 2. This concert will be sure to keep you celebrating the LSO all year long!
We are delighted to present you with "Puppets & Stars" featuring Puppets by Bob Brown in Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals, along with selected winners of the LSO's very first Young Artist Competition. This concert is family friendly and appropriate for all ages. You won't want to miss performances these local rising stars as they'll be sure to dazzle you all afternoon!
As we conclude our 10th anniversary season, we are pleased to present you with some of Russia's most beloved music in Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake Suite along with Dvořák's festive and boisterous Carnival Overture. We will also be featuring Zino Bogachek from Washington National Opera in Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 2. Be sure to join us in this special grand finale as we conclude the 2013-2014 season Celebrating 10 Years!
